Youth on Record Names Andrea Viarrial-Murphy Deputy Director

Youth on Record (YOR) is excited to announce that Andrea Viarrial-Murphy has been named Deputy Director.

Viarrial-Murphy, who has historic family lineage in La Alma (where YOR is headquartered), began her tenure with the organization in 2010 as a board member and served as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors from 2011-2013. At this time, YOR was still known by its previous name, Flobots.org. In her 12 years with YOR, Viarrial-Murphy has supported many facets of the organization’s growth, championing strategic development in youth development, mentoring, volunteer management, special events, marketing, fundraising, local musician advocacy, and more. She’s most recently served as Director of Giving and Growing, and started her YOR career as a part-time Operations Manager.

In 2018, Viarrial-Murphy launched the Music Ambassador program for YOR. This creative philanthropy program has raised tens-of-thousands of dollars for YOR by engaging local musicians in activating their own social and creative capital in support of the organization. Viarrial-Murphy’s innovative approach to philanthropy has largely been the leading force behind YOR’s notable fundraising success.

“When people think about Youth on Record, they think about Andrea. She embodies our mission, loves our team, and has a deep understanding of all facets of our work,” said Jami Duffy, YOR’s Executive Director.  “She brings compassion, dedication, a deep commitment to youth work, and has grown leaps and bounds in her personal leadership style. She’ll thrive as our Deputy, and will usher in her unique vision for YOR’s future growth."

As a leader of color, Viarrial-Murphy brings cultural relevance and responsiveness to her community work. She has been acknowledged widely for her accomplishments, but most recently by the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce for her contributions to the Denver community. The chamber appointed Viarrial-Murphy to their Women of Influence and Impact Leadership Program.

Viarrial-Murphy is also rounding out her fifth year of service on the Denver Music Advisory Panel through Denver Arts and Venues.

"I am excited for this new journey in my career at Youth on Record. I am so honored to be working in the same neighborhood that my dad was raised in. It looked very different 50+ years ago and this is a full circle moment for me. I am committed to the next generation of young creatives and I have always had a passion for teens and young adults. I am eager to champion Youth on Record as our impact extends further into the Denver community and ripples into the industry nationwide. I am beyond thrilled to support this team as they continue to grow as artists and professionals at Youth on Record. ”

As Deputy Director, Viarrial-Murphy will continue to cultivate strategic relationships with corporations, individual donors, and community partners in addition to visioning the next chapter of the organization’s Creative Youth Development and Success programs.

“Andrea is the best. Everyone–and I mean everyone–adores her. Working side-by-side with her is such a blessing to me and all of our team members. ” Duffy said. “I just love watching her grow and shine!”

About Youth on Record

YOR recognizes that education alone can not solve for systemic injustice, nor can it, alone, liberate youth. Art is a powerful tool, but it also cannot bear the sole responsibility for creating more equitable communities. Still, education and art, when integrated under the right framework, are powerful tools toward liberation and equity.

YOR’s education, music, and community programs are designed to help young people become more free, more rooted in their personal power, and better able to thrive in spite of systems and circumstances that dis-empower and marginalize them.

YOR designs and implements strengths-based, music-centered programs intended to equip young people from historically under-resourced communities with the skills needed to find success in life–by advancing their academic success, increasing their economic opportunities and career skills, and strengthening their community connections and networks.
